Re-interpretation of a historic log cabin to suit a creative studio residency in Grand Teton National Park.
AN ECOLOGY OF THINGS
The Rec Hall building once existed as part of the Rockefellers’ JY Ranch at the quaint southern end of Phelps Lake. The concepts of deposition, preservation, and proliferation, as they relate to natural processes as well as objects and anthropologic traces, inform a new program which welcomes residents to leave something behind after their stay.Â
Imagery from the site visit and preliminary research exploring the geologic conditions of petrification and rutilation serve as generative content for pattern, material, texture, form, and an overall design logic that situates the cabin as a cavity within nature.
